PARKS

The Chipley area features some good camp grounds for those interested
in "roughing it." A premier one is Falling Waters State Park 3 miles
away. According to its World Wide Website, "it derives its name from
one of Florida's most notable geological features: a 67-foot waterfall.
Falling Waters Sink is a 100-foot deep, 20-foot wide cylindrical pit into
which flows a small stream which drops 67 feet to the bottom of the sink.
The water's final destination is not yet known. "
< http://www.floridastateparks.org/fallingwaters/default.php >, phone
850-638-6130.
Florida Caverns State Park "came into the Florida park system in 1935,
when the CCC installed Company 4453 (Florida State Park #6) on the
site. Development of the park began immediately. At this time the CCC
and WPA were constructing the park facilities and roadways. In March
of 1937 a government surveyor, Oliver Chalifeaux, discovered where a
fallen tree had exposed a new cavern. When he crawled into this room,
he discovered the beautiful formations of what is now the present Florida
Caverns Tour Cave." See a history of the Park (phone 850-482-9598)
< http://www.floridastateparks.org/floridacaverns/history.php >. It is located
3 Miles North of Marianna, Off of U.S. 90 on S.R. 166. From I-10
Take Marianna Exit 136 or 142 North and follow signs to the park,
Ponce de Leon Springs State Park Area is located one half mile south of
U.S. 90 on C.R,181-A. Perhaps the "fountain of youth," always associated
with the name Ponce de Leon, is one of the numerous springs found
in this 443-acre park in Holmes and Walton counties. The main spring
found in the park is actually the coming together of two flows.

836-4281.
Another local camping venue is NW FL Music Park (638-0362). And
only fifty miles from Chipley is Panama City Beach, one of the worlds
most famous white-sand beaches < http://visitpcfla.com/>; . The Gulf of
Mexico's "Miracle Mile" should be open for business for anyone wishing
to see this storied area.
Finally, the area around Chipley is most famous in beekeeping circles for
being the source of world-famous tupelo honey, the "Ulees Gold" of a
1997 movieof the same name starring Peter Fonda
< http://www.lltupelohoney.com/uleesgold.htm>; . President Cutts promises
plenty of this sweet will be available at the banquet for tasting.
